We had a heat pump installed in late spring 2022 (Lennox heat pump, furnace and thermostat, helped by a Canadian government grant).
We looked up the electricity use data for this summer (2022) with the heat pump for air conditioning, compared to 2021 electricity use using two portable air conditioning boxes. Our other electricity use didn’t change from 2021 to 2022.
Both summers were very hot. In the highest summer air conditioning month each year we used 1467 kWh July 5 to Aug 2 2021, and 967 kWh July 1 – Aug 4 2022.
Note that the 2022 billing period is almost a week longer than the 2021 billing period. The average per week in July was 336 kWh in 2021, and 193 kWh in 2022. That’s almost 50% lower, without changing our other power use.
We’ll update again after the winter, with a report on how well the heat pump and the furnace work together.
